WiLAA CoP stands for Work Integrated Learning Accessibility and Accommodations Community of Practice. Our story began in response to work being done by ‘AcTinSite’. With a one-year SSHRC Connection Grant WiLAA aims to share knowledge related to the research project. We are a community of practitioners supporting WIL sharing resources to support students navigating accommodation and accessibility processes. Our Work aims to promote knowledge sharing to build skills that pre-emptively address accessibility and accommodations in WIL. Through supportive learning spaces, like events, we strive welcome people to express diverse views, challenge our work norms, and raise creative solutions for institutional systems challenges. The goal is to support all students in rewarding WIL experiences that lead to potential entry into their respective fields.
Our Vision:
WILAA Community of Practice creates spaces to foster relationships that promote knowledge sharing to build skills to pre-emptively address accessibility and accommodations in work-integrated learning (WIL). We believe this aim will lead all students to have a rewarding WIL that leads to potential entry to work in their field.
Mission:
WILAA Community of Practice aims to create spaces where people who support WIL can learn and access support for accessible WIL. As such, we welcome folks from WIL sites and higher education institutions. Some members’ roles are administrators, human resources, course instructors, accessibility services, WIL mentors, or placement coordinators.
We create this learning space to make it easier for students who need accommodations during WIL so they might thrive in their chosen field of work.
We create supportive learning spaces where people can develop trusting relationships. We strive to create spaces that welcome people to express diverse views, challenge our work norms, and raise creative solutions for institutional systems.
